When Wanderer's away...

.... I stole the couch from his blog and dragged it over to mine. That's why there's nowhere to sit.

In all reality though, Wanderer, when are we going to hear from you again?

I know this isn't really the place for these questions but I was hoping, if you're not too busy, you could answer these questions with as much clarity as possible. It is for a class I am taking and I remember you guys being really good thinkers. I'd appreciate your response.

1. Should religion play an important role in private/public life. If so, how important and why? What role has religion played in your own life?

2. Do you think there is one true religion? If so, what is it? If not, could religion that makes contradictory claims be true?

3. Do you think that some religions are false? Give an example if so, and why you think it is false.

4. Is there one major religious issue that you find very difficult to deal with or answer? Do you want to find answers to it?

5. Can you summarize in a sentence or two what you feel Christians believe. Could you ever be convinced that Christianity is true. If so, what would it take for someone to be convinced? If not, why?

6. What do you think of the Christian church today? Is it a good argument for the church of Christianity or not?

please e-mail your response to wellis68@gmail.com if you get around to answering these questions. Thank you

1. Should religion play an important role in private/public life? If so, how important and why? What role has religion played in your own life?
- The importance of religion in your life is your own to decide. I would say, however, that if you subscribe to a religion, it is important that you regularly check to see if you truly have faith in what you claim to subscribe to. If you have lost faith, and it appears irrevocable, then the religion is pointless. You may as well toss that pesky thing away. For myself, it is very important in my private life. I am a minister, so I imagine this is obvious. My faith guides how I live. It is the primary guide. As such, it is extremely important to my private life. In my public life, it has little role other than the coincidental impact its import to my private life has.

2. Do you think there is one true religion? If so, what is it? If not, could religions that make contradictory claims be true?
- Religion is a construct of man. There is no one true religion. They are all false to one extent or another. As soon as man attempts to declare definitively what the divine is, there is immediate room for error.

3. Do you think that some religions are false? Give an example if so, and why you think it is false.
- I believe I addressed that above.

4. Is there one major religious issue that you find very difficult to deal with or answer? Do you want to find answers to it?
- Why the foolish notion of an afterlife exists in so many religions. I am not sure I would like to know the answer.

5. Can you summarize in a sentence or two what you feel Christians believe? Could you ever be convinced that Christianity is true? If so, what would it take for someone to be convinced? If not, why?
- Christians believe that they have one all powerful god who created man to want certain things then denied it to them. He condemned them for defaulting to their nature (which he created) under the influence of a creature he allowed to "mislead" them. He then convinced them that sacrificing his own son allowed forgiveness as long as we promise to continue to work against the nature he created for some illusive reward he doesn't even guarantee. No, I doubt I could be convinced. Why? I have been exposed to their foolishness for too long to suspect there is some hidden key they have forgotten to show me.

6. What do you think of the Christian church today? Is it a good argument for the church of Christianity or not?
- I think they are meddling creatures hell bent on tormenting all of those who have not bought into their rebellion against nature. I don't think it is a good argument.
